Sierra Flanigan is a catalyst for sustainability, working in and between communities to bridge gaps, accelerate innovative solutions and forge pathways for ongoing collaboration. Her passions range from planting apple trees and advocating for honey bees to hosting potlucks, making art, organizing unConferences and practicing meditation.
Originally a West Coaster, Skye Flanigan is a lover of the outdoors and all things healthy. Currently, she is spending her time doing her masters in Environmental and Sustainability Management and researching environmental health. Skye has experience in international business, community organizing, and hospitality. Weekly you can find Skye volunteering at the Venture Café, and/or catching a hot yoga class before heading out for a long bike ride or a game of tennis.
Mio Yamamoto is committed and catalytic supporter of innovative social entrepreneurs. Mio is Co-Founder & Managing Director of WIT, a venture philanthropy organization to provide managerial and funding support to social ventures in Japan. She is originally from Japan and studied at MIT Sloan. A cat lover yet sadly allergic to cats.
Rainey Jernigan works at the crossroads of technology, sustainability, and entrepreneurship, specifically in the field of renewable energy. She is excited to be a part of the Sustainability unConference team to bring people together to talk about, ideate, and act on tackling big problems together! Her other hobbies include: supporting local businesses around Boston, and cooking.
Julian is an IT professional in the finance industry. Much of his work involves designing and deploying secure office networks for financial advisors. His hobbies include audio production, reading science fiction, and telling people which waste bin to use at Venture Cafe.
While Camille does research in auditory perception, she is also interested in community building and organization. She enjoyed her previous experience in event planning and is excited to be applying those skills to the Sustainability unConference. Her other interests include ornithology and aerial adventures.
Alex Kats-Rubin is an environmental scientist and economist specializing in climate change, green building, and renewable energy. At Abt Associates his projects for clients including EPA and NOAA include the Social Cost of Carbon, natural capital valuation, and curbing coal emissions through biomass co-firing. Alex received his Bachelors of Science from Cornell University in the Science of Natural Earth Systems, Environmental Economics.
Brittany is a professional working in the energy intelligence space with EnerNOC. Accompanying her passion to change the way the world uses energy, she enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, all things outdoors, practicing yoga and networking.
Ryan is a financial services director hailing from Northern Massachusetts. New England’s natural beauty holds a special place in his heart. Ryan is passionate about utilizing alternative forms of media to drive awareness regarding environmental and social issues. His hobbies include home brewing, video production and hiking.
Helen Petty is a senior at Boston University studying Environmental Analysis & Policy and International Relations. While still unsure what the next stages of life hold for her, she is passionate about travel and sustainable cities. She is especially inspired by the innovative direction that Boston is headed.
Ricky Gardner grew up in San Diego, California where sustainability and green lifestyles are a way of life. Ricky is currently studying architecture at the Boston Architectural College where he is putting a strong sustainable emphasis into all his design work. At the BAC Ricky is the student representative the Sustainability Council and I helped start the BAC Green team, a student sustainability organization, of which he is currently in charge of all digital marketing and graphics. Helping push institutions towards more sustainable systems is a natural direction for me, and creating beautiful and clear graphics as they pertain to sustainability is something he enjoys.
Laura is an Industrial Engineer from Bogotá, Colombia who is passionate about waste management, and recycling; she is taking her first class towards a Master's in Sustainability & Environmental Management. Laura hopes to take action on waste problems and consumerist culture in Latin America. She loves rock climbing and outdoors.
Lauren Goldberg is a sustainability professional with an interest in community building and social marketing. Her entrepreneurial spirit has driven her to start a number of initiatives focusing on a range of topics from sustainable business to bicycle advocacy to social impact jobs for post-grads. Tung Huynh is currently working toward his MBA at Suffolk University. Tung is passionate in helping businesses finding solutions to reduce environmental footprint and improve operational efficiencies. He loves the outdoors and enjoy cooking for his friends.
Elena Sereiviene - Passionate educator and social entrepreneur. She works at an educational startup at CIC. She organizes interactive & collaborative workshops that inspire personal and social change. Elena studied and worked in Lithuania, UK, Spain, France and Czech Republic. She speaks 5 languages and wants to learn Italian next.
Eleni Kanatsouli is an electrical engineer and 2015 Hellenic Initiative Fellow from Greece. She is currently working in the renewable energy sector, for Greenwood Energy in Boston. She is passionate about how emerging clean energy technologies and network wealth can help transform today's energy sector and positively impact our world. She is also crazy about travelling and rock climbing.
From a background in environmental education in an urban school for at risk students, Marcy Ostberg. gained an appreciation for balancing environmental concerns with the daily problems faced in many low-income communities of color. She is currently the Strategic Projects Manager at the Right Question Institute where she disseminates the use of innovative questioning strategies as a means for problem-solving and civic engagement.
McKenna Hayes was born and raised in Burlington, Vermont where sustainability and environmental awareness was ingrained in her upbringing from day one. Shecurrently resides in Somerville, MA doing sustainability management for a large food retail company. McKenna is focused on creating sustainable food systems that can be implemented within urban communities in order to alleviate hunger and combat social inequality within our current food models. McKenna also loves music, snowboarding, hockey and swimming.
